Cat doors for sliding doors, windows and glass

We fit a cat door into your sliding door, window or fixed glass panel, cutting laminated glass on site so the sliding door still slides.

Most cats sit at a closed sliding door or window and wait to be let out. A cat flap in the glass ends that. Your cat comes and goes on its own, the door or window stays shut, insects stay outside, and you can lock the flap when you want your cat in for the night.

Sliding doors

A cat door can go into either the sliding panel or the fixed panel. We go by which side your cat uses, where it lands outside and how the door is used day to day, then recommend the panel. The cat door sits within the glass, so the door slides as it always has, provided there is enough gap between the panels for the frame to pass. We check that gap before we start.

Windows and fixed glass

A window is often the easiest way out for a cat: onto a balcony, a courtyard or a garden, without a door being involved at all. We check the size of the panel and where your cat will land on each side before recommending a spot.

Cut on site, or a new panel

Windows follow the same rule as doors. If the panel is laminated, our qualified glaziers cut the opening on site and fit the cat door with the glass still in the frame. Toughened glass cannot be cut once it has been made, so a new panel is made with the opening already in it and we swap the panels over. The cat door we fit into glass

Our standard cat door for glass is the Pet-Tek Catwalk: a translucent round flap moulded from UV stabilised polycarbonate, so it does not yellow in the sun, with a slim frame that sits within the glass. It has a full weather seal against draughts and rain, a magnetic flap and stainless steel fixings, and it can be locked shut when you want your cat inside.

The Catwalk is rated to 8kg, which covers most domestic cats. For bigger cats, the Pet-Tek Dogwalk Mini fits into glass the same way and is rated to 13kg. If you want the door to open only for your own cat, ask about a microchip cat door.

An insert, or a cat door in the glass?

Some owners look at a pet door panel insert that sits in the track of a sliding door. It needs no cutting, but it takes up part of the doorway and the door closes against it rather than the frame.
